Structured Literacy for the Dyslexic Scholar
Odyssey Dyslexia Services, Inc.
I am a Wilson Dyslexia Practitioner (WDP) and a Structured Literacy Dyslexic Interventionist through the Center of Effective Reading Instruction- a subsidiary of the International Dyslexia Association. Other advanced level trainings and certifications include Wilson Reading System Level II Upper Steps/Group Mastery and Basic Language Skills at the Rawson Saunders Institute. (The International Dyslexia Association lists the Wilson Language Training and the Dyslexia Therapy Training Programs at the Rawson Saunders Institute as independent teacher training programs accredited by the International Dyslexia Association). I completed the Reading Intervention Master Teacher Program (RIMT) through the Hillsborough County Public Schools and the Department of Exceptional Student Education. I am also certified in the Schools Attuned Program/All Kinds of Minds Institute.
I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education with highest honors from the University of Texas in Austin.
As a certified teacher in Texas and Florida, I have taught in both public and private schools since 1990. From 2005-2008, I taught at Rawson-Saunders School, a nationally recognized private school for children with dyslexia. I also held a Dyslexia Specialist position and provided dyslexia interventions for students in Kindergarten through fifth grade from 2008-2013 in Georgetown Independent School District. To inform instructional decision making, I screened and tested students for dyslexia, evaluated the dyslexia testing results, wrote reports and participated in 504/IEP meetings. To educate parents and the community about dyslexia, I also participated in community forums. As an Academic Intervention Specialist (AIS) in Hillsborough County Public Schools, I taught “Structured Literacy” to struggling students in grades Kindergarten through second grade from 2015-2017.
My husband and I took the opportunity to relocate to Florida so we could live closer to our daughter, son-in-law and sweet, little grandson. We enjoy living in Florida!
I believe a dyslexic child learns to read, spell and write differently, and I am dedicated to providing evidence based reading interventions that allow each child to succeed and reach his or her personal best.
